Traces of humanity as the world shakes

This series explores the contemporary tensions that affect us collectively. Some works address the invisible yet omnipresent transmission of illness during the COVID-19 pandemic, expressing anxiety, isolation, and the fragility of bodies. Others resonate with the Me Too movement, suggesting long-silenced voices rising up and power dynamics beginning to shift.
In parallel, several paintings evoke the consequences of global warming, particularly carbon emissions linked to industrial activity. Abstract forms convey the suffocating pressure of saturated air, while figurative elements highlight the vulnerability of ecosystems and living beings.

These works fragment and reconstruct space, combining abstraction and figuration to reveal a world under strain—yet still inhabited by momentum and resilience.

Écume du confinement (Confinement Foam)

Écume du confinement (Confinement Foam) is a painting that took shape in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted our lives and confined people around the world to their homes. This isolation aroused a variety of emotions in us, from loneliness to fear, while also pushing us to reflect and adapt.

The positive that blossomed in this gloom is an element I wanted to represent in this work. That's why it is intended to be clear and luminous. A golden ribbon traces two bottle-like shapes, perhaps symbolizing the cramped space between the walls of our homes that has become a prison. In their center, the blurred outlines of several small human silhouettes, curled up on themselves, evoke the need for closeness and the feeling of vulnerability felt during this period.

Viral Transmission

The painting Viral Transmission, as its title suggests, represents the rapid spread of a virus in a world where social inequalities become more apparent, and deaths are disproportionately higher in poor countries compared to wealthy ones.

In this piece, the undulating golden ray that moves uncontrollably from one figure to another symbolizes the disease. The composition is divided into two sections, separated by a wide, light gray wall made permeable by multiple openings. The left side is crowded with people heavily marked by the golden-colored virus, some of whom fade away, sinking into the dark blue background etched with funeral flowers.

On the right side of the painting, which is less populated, figures appear only lightly speckled with gold, indicating a lower level of infection.

Furthermore, sociology and science have often applied the concept of viral transmission to ideas, emotions, and behaviors. The way this propagation occurs in society is what led French philosopher Michel Foucault, through his study of power and discipline mechanisms, to highlight how norms and behaviors spread through social contagion.

The beauty of art lies in its ability to offer multiple possible interpretations, allowing each viewer to perceive this painting in a unique and personal way.

This painting depicts man caught in his own net. A net constructed by his burning desire to pursue his pursuit of ever-increasing profits, while remaining blind to the long-term consequences for himself and his environment.

In this painting, air pollution is represented by two different layers of abstract paint. One at the bottom (the latticework of the net) and the other on top, forming the holes that should be empty spaces, but are instead filled with colorful abstractions. Throughout this movement, one can distinguish a giant, blurred, straw-like body lying surrounded by five chimneys.

Résidu asphyxiant (Suffocating residue) I

This painting represents a man caught in his own net—one woven from his burning desire to pursue ever-growing profits, all while remaining blind to the long-term consequences for himself and his environment.

In the work, air pollution is portrayed through two distinct layers of abstract paint. One in the background forms the mesh of the net, while the other, on top, fills in what should be empty holes—spaces that instead overflow with dense, colorful abstractions. Amid all this motion, a blurred, giant, fetus-like body lies surrounded by five smokestacks.
